Free web health check

Ten things that can quietly go wrong with a business website — checked for free.

Most of what goes wrong online isn't the design. It's the domain nobody renewed, the email landing in spam, the certificate that expired on certain phones, the backup that doesn't exist. None of it shows on the screen until a customer finds it first.

Send me your web address, or just your business name, and I'll check all ten points below and send you the findings in writing, in plain English. No obligation, and the findings are yours to use whoever does the work — including if the answer is “you're grand, you don't need anything.”

The ten points

What gets checked, and why it matters.

Every one of these is objective: it either passes or it doesn't. No opinions about your colours.

  1. 1

    Domain & DNS

Whether the domain is registered correctly, who it's registered to, when it renews, and whether the DNS records point where they should.

  2. 2

    SSL certificate

Whether the site loads securely on every address it answers to (with and without www), and whether the certificate is valid and renewing.

  3. 3

    Email setup

Whether the business email is on its own domain and whether the records that keep it out of spam folders (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) are in place.

  4. 4

    Mobile-friendliness

Whether the site is usable on a phone, where most local customers will see it first.

  5. 5

    Page speed

How quickly the pages load on a mobile connection, measured rather than guessed.

  6. 6

    Search visibility

Whether Google can find and index the site, and whether the basics that help it rank locally (titles, descriptions, place names, structured data) are present.

  7. 7

    Social previews

What the link looks like when someone shares it on WhatsApp, Facebook or Instagram: the right title, description and image, or a blank card.

  8. 8

    Software updates

Whether the software under the site is current, or out of date in a way that's known to be exploited.

  9. 9

    Backups

Whether there's a backup of the site at all, and whether anyone knows where it is.

  10. 10

    Contact & booking path

Whether a customer can actually reach you: the phone number is tappable, the form works, the booking link goes somewhere.

What you get

  • A written note by email: each of the ten points, what I found, and what it means for your business.
  • What to do next, in order of what matters, whether or not that involves me.
  • If something is on fire (a domain about to lapse, a certificate warning), I'll say so first.

What you don't get

  • A sales call. You asked for a check, so you get a check. If you want to talk about the findings, you'll have my number.
  • Any obligation. The note is yours to hand to whoever looks after your site now.
  • Anything touched. The check reads your setup; it doesn't change it.

Ask for the check

Leave your name and number and I'll ring you back, send a message with your web address, or book a 15-minute call at a time that suits. I'm based in Abbeyleix, Co. Laois and work with businesses across Laois, Kilkenny and the midlands.
